Spring Flower Bowl Tutorial

Earlier in the week I wrote on the blog for the first time in 19 months and now I’m back with this spring tutorial with Emma from A Quiet Style. If you have had time to read the previous blog I’m sure you will understand how pleased I was to meet up with Emma, catch up on life and of course get to play with some lovely spring flowers.

Spring Flower Bowl

I love the spring, with all that new life bursting out but I also love that you can buy spring flowers for just a couple of pounds.

Selection of Spring Flowers

In my mind, at least, that means you have no excuse but to bring an abundance of flowers into your home!

Spring Flower Bowl

With this tutorial I wanted to show that you could turn any bowl or container however wide into something suitable for flowers. This can be done simply with some chicken wire that you can use again and again.

Time to ask you for some help!

I’m planning to do some workshops in and around Sussex and Kent this year and would love your help with the following. I would love to learn;  What you would like to learn, what time of the day would suit you and how much you would be happy to pay.

It’s a really short survey but I would learn such a lot. If you would like to be kept informed of upcoming workshop dates please complete the survey or drop me an email.

I’m happy to help and complete the survey!

Thank you Caroline x

P.S I haven’t quite forgiven Emma for putting up photos of me on her blog!

Flower ideas for a sea side wedding

I have been asked to do the wedding flowers of a really lovely couple who are getting married next April. The wedding is going to be at The Gallivant Hotel, Camber, Rye, East Sussex. and I thought I would share some ideas with you on the blog today. The couple’s brief was, natural, informal with a splash of colour.blue_yellow_sand_edited-1

The Gallivant Hotel is set behind the sand dunes of the beautiful sandy beach of Camber Sands, specialising in relaxed, informal weddings that have a joyful seaside holiday feel about them. I wanted to reflect the colours of the sand dunes the sky and the sea but also bring a splash of springtime colour. yellow_blue_blog_edited-1

My suggested colour palette goes from sage green into turquoises, pale washed out blues with a splash of sunshine yellow and ochre going down to sandy beige and cream.amy_colours_blog_plot_edited-1

yellow_flowers_blog_edited-1 L: Caramel Antike, garden rose. M: feverfew.  R Craspedia

    blue_white_blogL: Delphiniums  M: White O’Hara, garden rose R: forget-me-not

I love using Pinterest to show my brides my ideas, colour palettes and potential flowers that I have in mind. I also always ask my brides if they already have a Pinterest wedding board before the initial consultation so that I can gather ideas and get a really good feel for the look that they are after and if they don’t I recommend that they start one.

If you’d like to see more ideas on this wedding or others please check out my Pinterest boards. blog_bottles_edited-1

And if you’re getting married and would like some rather marvellous wedding flowers then let me know, I would love to help! Please call or email me

      A Bit About Me

I thought I would start my first ever blog by telling you a little bit about me and how my love affair with flowers began.

For as long as I remember I have always been making things, from a cardboard Cash Till so I could play ‘Shop’ with my toys to learning to knit from my granny. I was privileged to have an upbringing where I travelled the world and was taken to art exhibitions, the theatre, the ballet and was taught to see the beauty that surrounds us.

My mother loved haute couture fashion, not that she could afford it but she loved to look and see how it was put together. My father is the gardener of the family and we always had gorgeous gardens to enjoy and freshly cut flowers in the house. All of these influences infected me with a desire to create and be creative so I trundled off to art school at the age of 16.  I studied three-dimensional design but textile’s was my first love, but still I would be very happy if I could just sit and sew all day long.  After art school and trying to make it in the art world I decided I needed a proper job and what better than floristry; it’s the perfect match of fashion, designing and making.  2003 I went too studied at Hadlow Agricultural College and met an amazing group of people who have supported me to this day.

wedding_flowers_leeds_castle_kentI started ‘Caroline Grimble Flowers’ in 2006 from my parents’ garage in Kent. I grew a reputation for creating beautiful bespoke Wedding Flowers and doing elegant Event Floristry. I loved working with brides to create personal and individual arrangements that complemented their style, surroundings and of course the bride and groom.  As my reputation and business grew I got to work on some amazing weddings in some very special locations and loved every minute of it.  But very sadly in 2010 I lost my beloved mother.  Losing her strength, support and influence devastated me and I felt I couldn’t carry on with the business.  But at the same time as losing her I met ‘The Boy’ who treasured me and made me grow strong again.  I moved to sunny Eastbourne to start my new life and got a job, a normal one.  But then I had a health scare myself and although the chaps at Guys Hospital fixed me all up it made me re-evaluate what I wanted out of life.  There was a big something missing, I was not exploring my creative side, nor was I planning or making. I craved the excitement I get from being involved in a persons’ wedding knowing that I could make it beautiful for them.  So with a deep breath I’m diving back in and ‘Wild Rubus’ is here.

I hope that you will join me in my journey of blogging. I’m not sure where it’s going to take me but I will keep you updated with real-life weddings, the cutting plot and probably what I’m baking as well.
